St John's College boys DMR post race interview in Austin, Texas
The St. John's College High School (SJC) boys are on an assault in the middle distance relays. Two weeks ago, a time of 7:35.52 earned them a national championship win at the New Balance Nationals Indoor. It also made them the second fastest team of all-time as they just missed the national record by .60 seconds.
Last night, SJC continued their masterful running by winning the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) at the Texas Relays. The DMR combined SJC's strengths possibly even more so than the 4x800 relay does. The SJC quartet is made up of quarter milers, half milers, and milers. That allowed them to show the boys down south how the DMV gets down.
When we win as a team I feel like it's a great way to represent what we've been doing this season, I feel great being in the record books with my brothers, people I've worked with for four straight years, it's a great feeling to be remembered that way.

The trend in high school these days are for kids from different neighborhood, cities, and even across the county to go to the same school. It has it's advantages and perks, but don't tell that to SJC. They have are one of the all-time bests and they did it the old fashioned way -- going to the neighborhood school with kids from the same are. Oh yeah, the formula that is tried and true...development.
Few of the SJC quartet even knew how many laps the 800m was when they started, but now they know it and running altogether very well!
Their DMR win came against some of Texas' premiere distance programs. SJC was in the mix the entire race, never relinquishing one of the top three positions after the first exchange and were able to display their savvy racing abilities and their superior speed and fitness over the course of the last lap.
