Worlds Wrap-Up: How Ohioans Performed In Eugene

Abby Steiner wrapped up her first trip to the World Athletics Championships on Thursday with a fifth place showing in the 200m finals. Steiner, running in lane 8, clocked 22.26 to finish one spot ahead of American teammate Tamara Clark, who secured sixth with a 22.32 mark.

Steiner indicated to reporters afterward that she didn't recall ever racing out of lane 8 before and that her strategy going in was to get out hard, try to hold on and not worry about all the fast competitors coming up behind her. She also commented on the value she'll take from the entire World Championships experience and the motivation she's derived from the friendly rivals making up the Jamaican sprints team.

While Steiner's individual racing has concluded, she's lobbying for a spot on a relay team (4x100 or 4x400), saying she's at the ready to help the American squad in any way possible. However, it remains unclear at this time who will make up the Team USA rosters in the days ahead.
