Bangor Senior Daniel McCarthy Commits to Georgetown


Bangor senior Daniel McCarthy ended his college search last week when he committed to Georgetown University in Washington, DC to continue his academic and athletic career. Daniel said that Georgetown stood out for its academics, as well as the success of the program. As well as additional items such as men's distance coach Brandon Bonsey being from Maine, and the school is easy to travel to.

McCarthy is undefeated during the 2021 cross-country season winning two of the biggest invitationals in the state, the Fleet Feet XC Classic (15:28) and the Maine XC Festival of Champions (15:34). He enters the postseason as the one to beat in Class A. On the track, Daniel was a member of the Class A 4x800 champions last spring and has run personal bests of 1:58.21 for 800m and 4:25.01 for 1600m. Last spring after the outdoor season McCarthy ran a 1:53 time trial for 800m which caught the attention of several collegiate coaches.

Georgetown has been the destination for several Maine high school standouts over the years with Levi Miller and Brandon Bonsey on the men's team, and 2021 Olympian Rachel Schenider, and Aleta Looker on the women's team.
