T Roosevelt junior Fajr Kelly had a memorable season opener on Saturday at the DCIAA Invitational. Kelly won 3 races on the track including two individual races with times among the fastest the country in the early indoor season.

She kicked off her day winning the 400 meter dash with a US #3 time of 57.52, which was a new personal best indoors. She was the only runner in the entire meet with a field of 108 competitors to break 60 seconds on the day.

Later in the meet, Kelly came back to roar to a new national leading time of 2:15.71 in the 800 meter run. She went thru a brisk 65 seconds thru her first 400 meters and was able to come back with a 70 second split on her final 400 meters to record the time and win by a decisive 14 seconds ahead of her teammate Jacqueline Braxton in second place at 2:29.

To conclude her day, Kelly took the baton on anchor leg roughly 35 to 40 meters behind C.H. Flowers and was able to eat up all the gap in the final lap in dramatic fashion to give her Roosevelt squad the win with a 4:10.25.
