Dozen Boys To Watch At 2018 MPSSAA State Championships

Justin Diehl (Calvert)

Justin Diehl has been on the state scene since his freshmen year at Calvert High School when he finished as a state outdoor runner-up in the 2A boys 3200 race. Last year as a sophomore, Diehl won the state title in the event with a 9:32 first place performance at Morgan State University.

Diehl returns to defend his state title with the fastest 3200 meter time of the season in Maryland in 9:21. A 15:39 5K performer from the cross country season, Diehl also ran 8:32 for a 7th place finish in the 3K at the Penn Relays. He will have some serious competition to contend with in Poolesville's Ryan Lockett, who was the 3A state champ in the event last year.

Diehl has also improved his middle distance speed to drop his 1600 PR down to 4:23, which ranks 3rd fastest in 3A.
