Big Early Races From This Year's Indoor Season

3. Emily Sloan Shredding The Hurdles

Another impressive performance is Rock Canyon High School's Emily Sloan, who dropped an 8.47 in the 60mH to win the Colorado Mines HS Indoor Series #2 meet on December 6. That time would have been the fastest time in the nation at this time last year, and the 14th-fastest time in the nation at the end of the season.

It also beats her previous best mark from that same meet last year, where she ran 8.61. It's only .08 off her PR from 2016 of 8.39, which she ran to place ninth in the semis at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

That was the U.S. No. 2 mark at this time in December last year behind Grace Stark of Lakeland in White Lake, Michigan, who ended up finishing seventh at New Balance Nationals with an 8.42. Sloan's 8.47 would have placed her eighth in the finals at NBNI in 2017.

She also ran in a college race at the Air Force Holiday Openwhere she ran 8.48 to place second in the collegiate field behind Colorado State University's Destinee Rocker (8.44). That was three days after her 8.47 performance.
