The Scoop: Fun Times And Big Efforts At Distance Night in Palatine

3. Madison Wiltrout Is Back To Her Old Self

While Madison Wiltrout competed through much of last season, the Connellsville (Pa.) High senior javelin thrower wasn't herself for much of that time.

Elbow surgery she underwent and rehabbed through ultimately impacted her consistency over the 2016 season.

Still, Wiltrout, who was a fifth-place finisher at the USATF Junior National Outdoor Track and Field Championships, was ready to get back her mojo, and that started first when she signed with the University of North Carolina in November.

"I picked North Carolina because of the people and the coach," she told Triblive.com then. "When I visited in September, the people I met on campus were more concerned about you and not that you could throw a javelin."

Then the three-time PIAA champion, who set a national record in a state competition in 2015 with a heave of 185-8, opened her season in April with a toss of 163-2.

She came back this past week with a mark of 173-10 -- which was nearly 10 feet farther than her best attempt from 2016.

Wiltrout is yet again dominating the competition.
