Most Outstanding Performer!

Who do you think should be named the state meet Most Outstanding Performer?

With the boys it’s a tough call!  Tyler Tate gutted it out in the two mile to help his team win a team championship after already winning the mile and the 800.  The 800 was an outstanding race in a great time of 2:00.68, especially since he got boxed in on the first lap and had to work his way out.  The mile time was quite slow.  Apparently nobody wanted to challenge Tate who won in 4:41.  He dictated the pace from the outset and nobody was willing to challenge him.  The same seemed true for the 3200.  It appeared that nobody wanted to push the pace there either as the winning time was 10:04.  Still it was a gutsy performance demonstrating a competitive spirit and determined effort on the part of Tate.  Thus he accounted for 24 of his team's total points, all 24 coming from individual performances.

Leshon Collins' foot speed was on display as he was the class of the 55m dash field winning in a respectable 6.53 seconds, equaling his season and personal best.  That was after he placed 3rd in the long jump with a 20' 7.25" mark.  He then led off the 4th place finishing 4x2 team for Glasgow.  His day was capped off when he won the open 200m dash in a pedestrian time (especially for him) of 23.11 which ranks tied for 33rd on the all-time performance list.  Leshon made a contribution to 30 of his team's 34 point total, accumulating 26 individually.

Teron Evans had an outstanding state meet as well.  Teron placed second to Leshon in the 55m dash.  He won the 400m dash in a very strong 50.51 out dueling Mark Flakes of McKean, placing him 13th on the all-time performance list.  He was also a leg of the winning 4x2 relay and the second place 4x4 team.  Both relays made the top 20 all-time performance list, with Teron supposedly splitting a 49.9 on the 4x4.  Quite a day for the junior from Howard!  Can't wait to see what he does outdoor!  Teron contributed to 36 of his team's point total, scoring 18 individually.

For the girls, it's hard to argue against Haley Pierce being the most outstanding performer.  She won the 800, 1600 and 3200 all in very solid times.  She also ran on the 2nd place 4x4 team for Tatnall.  Now that's an incredible day!  Her times for each of her individual races were:  2:18.14, 5:05.27 and 11:33.51.  Her 1600 time was just a second off the meet and state record of 5:04.06.  Her 800 time is 7th all-time and her 3200 time would rank 14th on the all-time performance list.  Not a bad day to say the least!

The other outstanding girl of the meet was Celina Emerson.  2nd in the 55m dash.  First in the 200.  First in the 400.  And a leg on the winning 4x4 team.  Her 400 time is the 3rd fastest ever in the state of Delaware!  Her 200 time is tied for 6th on the all-time list.  And her 55m dash is 6th all-time.  The 4x4 squad's time would rank 9th on the all-time list.

Any other year, Celina would be the hands down outstanding performer, but this year there was another outstanding performer the likes of which we may never see again...until perhaps she does it again next year being that Haley Pierce is just a SOPHOMORE!
