This was not a decision taken lightly, but the health and safety of our athletes, families, fans and employees is our top priority.

We understand [Nationals] has provided a platform for intense competition, showcased some of the sport's greatest talent, and gathered a strong community to celebrate their shared love for running.

The decision comes after the COVID-19 virus is seeing an increase in infection rate in over 30 states across the United States. The situation has created a patchwork of approaches to what the fall season may even look like.

As schools weigh the distance learning options against the risks of in-school instruction, sports seasons are seeing even more variability. Some options that are being adopted include delayed starts, seasons that will end early, and even flipping cross country to the spring in exchange for outdoor track and field in the fall.

As of this writing, the Foot Locker National Championships have made no mention on the status of their race. Team Nationals, by nature of the event, typically carries 200 athletes per race, while Foot Locker is capped at 40 individuals.

Team Nationals will look to return in 2021.
