Another blow to track and field athletes and fans came on Friday.

After careful consideration and review, AAU announced it was canceling its 2020 Primary National Championships and its 2020 Club National Championships, which were expected to take place from July 9-18 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

This decision comes after numerous domestic professional sports leagues began solidfying plans to restart competition at the massive sports complex in central Florida.

One among them was the National Basketball Association, which announced this week that it will host the rest of its season at the Wide World of Sports complex through an approved 22-team format. Major League Soccer was another league that will start using the complex in July in an approved World Cup-style tournament draw.

The AAU Primary National Championships and Club Championships routinely thousands of athletes at Wide World of Sports every year.

But while these two major championships are canceled, AAU is still considering its plans for the AAU Junior Olympics, which remains tentatively scheduled for late July. Recently, Brevard County, Florida submitted a bid to host the Games and that proposal is currently being reviewed.
