Decker Barborek: Vaulting Over His 6A Counterparts

Some seniors slump back and others just vault above the competition their final high school year. One guy that is vaulting over his competition in more than one way is Fairfax's Decker Barborek. He currently sits VA #1 amongst 6A athletes and VA #4 overall with his 15-0 best this season.

Check out Decker Barborek's Athlete Profile

Decker is not an overnight star but someone that has worked hard at his craft for years and it is really showing this indoor season. He has gone from 9' to 10' to 12'6" to 13' to 14' to 14'7.25" to 15' in his seven seasons in high school.

The last part few heights have been the most impressive considering 15'1" makes the VA All-Time list. That height also puts him in serious contention for the 6A state title this month. He has placed 10th, 9th, 9th, and 5th at states. This time around, he wants change that and hopefully he is saving the best for Boo.

Aside from the pole vault it looks like he could have quite the career in multis. He owns a quick 35.82 best in the 300, a 1:05.91 in the 500, and 8.23 in the 55mH. That coupled with solid marks in the jumps and throws makes him primed for a great multi competition.

Decker did score a solid 5,765 points over the summer in an official Decathlon competition.
