WATCH Katelyn Tuohy Shatter OB Facility Record, Runs #2 All-Time For 3000m in 9:05.26

Staten Island, NY - It may only be her first race on the track (minus a "fun-run" in the 55m trials in late December), but Nike Cross Nationals Champ Katelyn Tuohy (North Rockland) is wasting no time proving she can run fast on the oval, as well.

At the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games, Katelyn Tuohy ran 9:05.26 for the 3000m, lapping much of the field en route.  That mark makes her #2 All-Time, behind only Mary Cain (Unattached), who went 9:04.51 in 2013.  The mark breaks the Ocean Breeze meet record, held by Kate Murphy (Lake Braddock) last year, at 9:14.02.  It also breaks the overall Facility Record, previously set by Collegian Katrina Coogan (Georgetown), when she won the Big East Conference Championships in 9:07.44.  Coogan would go on to place third overall in the NCAA D1 Finals the following competition, in almost the same time.

In completing her race, Tuohy also breaks the Sophomore National Record in the event, previously held by Kelsey Chmiel (Saratoga).  Chmiel set that mark of 9:26.28 at the State Championships held at Ocean Breeze last March.  Tuohy's mark converts to 9:45.34 for 3200m & 9:48.72 for the full 2-Mile.

Tuohy's next race is most likely to be in the 5000m, held at the VA Showcase on January 20th.  There, she could be chasing another National Record.
