Norwegian 16-year-old Jakob Ingebrigtsen Becomes Youngest Ever To Break 4 In The Mile!

Norwegian 16-year-old Jakob Ingebrigtsen became the youngest miler in history to break 4-minutes on Saturday at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, running 3:58.07.

Entering the International Mile, Ingebrigtsen and La Salle Academy (RI) High senior DJ Principe were the only teenagers in the field. Alongside them were 11 athletes which had achieved times under 4-minutes. Both were carried through three laps on pace.

But it was Ingebrigtsen who held on in the final stretches and became youngest in track and field history to break 4-minutes. The former age class world record was set at 4:06.7, which was accomplished by Barrie Williams in 1972

Principe, the Stanford University signee, was through just over 1200 meters at 3 minutes, and missed the mark in a time of 4:00.73. It was his second time at just over 4 minutes following his indoor performance at the New Balance Games in January when he ran 4:00.97.

Congrats to both!
