NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships Recap

GREENSVILLE, NC -- The William & Mary men and Virginia men had strong showings at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships held at Lake Kristi with third (94 pts) and fourth places finishes (95 pts) as they were separated by a mere one point difference. The Tribe had four All-Region performers in senior Ed Moran (3rd, 30:08), sophomore Matt Keally (16th, 30:44), sophomore Jeff Hedley (23rd, 30:50), and junior Charlie Hurt (25th, 30:55). Meanwhile, the Cavaliers had two All-Region performers in junior Will Christian (7th, 30:19) and senior Walton Kingsberry (13th, 30:30) with two runners just off All-Region placings in juniors Ryan Neuhart (26th, 30:58) and Dave Vitto (27th, 30:58). Other strong individual performaners were Virginia Tech junior Mike Lawson (21st, 30:49) and James Madison junior Mark Bahnuk (24th, 30:51) with All-Region finishes. The William & Mary women were the top finishing Virginia school with their fifth place finish (165 pts), while the Virginia Tech ladies finished a surprisingly strong sixth place (179 pts). Both squads were led by an NCAA Nationals individual qualifier each with Tech's Marlies Overbeeke (5th, 20:20) and William & Mary's Ali Henderson (7th, 20:23). Virginia senior Jane Maxwell joined Overbeeke and Henderson on the All-Region team with a 14th place finish (20:41).
